Computer Security Certification
If there has ever been a growth field, it is computer security certification. With a good computer security certificate from a reputable college, you can go anywhere. Even if you go to one of those IT training schools the you see advertised on daytime television, your certification computer security will probably open doors for you. There are all kinds of jobs for computer security experts, from Homeland security to private industry. You can help prevent data theft, write computer security software, or investigate hackers for law enforcement. For a security certified network professional, the sky is the limit.
I had never expected to get into computer security certification when I was growing up. If anything, I was on the other side of the law. Many of the experts in computer security certification were hackers when they were kids. I used to try to break into all kinds of things just to see if I could do it. It wasn't a matter of malicious intent. I just wanted to test the boundaries and see what holes computer security systems had in them. To me, it was more of a game or an intellectual exercise than an act of vandalism. Unfortunately, law enforcement did not see it that way. I was caught when I was 16 years old, breaking into the offices of a major multinational corporation. Because of my age I got off with probation, but I realized that I had to turn my life around.
I got my computer security certification training after a few years of soul-searching. To be honest, I was tempted to give up computer hacking altogether, but finally I realized that this was not the course for me. I was just too fascinated by computer networking and the security issues that it involved. I knew that, if I did not go into computer security, it was only a matter of time before I would get into trouble again. Temptation would overwhelm me, and I would suddenly found myself hacking into something or other. Although a I could get away with it for years this time (I had learned from my mistakes) is still didn't seem to be worth the risk. In the long run, I would get caught. That is why I got my computer security certification. As a certified information security auditor, I can make my hobby into my life and stay on the right side of the law.

Your Computer Is A Gold Mine On A Desktop !
Your Computer Is A Gold Mine On A Desktop !
By Norm Williams
Digging a ton of dirt to get an ounce of gold is hard
work but it is easy with your computer on autopilot.
Your computer is the most fantastic money making
machine ever invented. It is used in almost every
business to make money. Yes your computer
is a word processor, a spell checker, a typesetter, a
printer, an Email message sender, a data storage unit,
a document composer and much more. It can do the
work that once took a big staff of expert craftsmen.
Today the computer does it all automatically. You have
only to put it to work to pour money into your home
office.
Let me tell you a little story. I have four sons who each
make money with their computers. My oldest son sells
insurance to pilots all over the world. My second son
does over a million dollars of business a month doing
publications on his Macintosh computer. My third son
does the color flyers that are inserted in the newspapers.
The youngest son sells courses on the Internet and earned
$10,000 dolllars last week. Each son is in a different
business making money with computers.
Gold is where you find it and the computer is a great
search engine to dig out the veins of pure gold. In the
old days of the Gold Rush of 1849 you needed a pick
and shovel and a donkey to carry your supplies to a
location out in the mountains.
The computer on the Internet is the modern gold strike
of the millennium. When you have the right tools you can
mine gold on your desktop computer. What the computer
does best is publish information. Almost everyone needs
information to survive in this modern world. Millions of
computer owners want to know how to get rich with their
own computers.
Writing has always been a way to make big money. William
Shakespeare became wealthy writing plays and acting
on the stage in England. Old Ben Franklin became
independently wealthy printing his Poor Richard's Almanac.
Writers like Charles Dickens, Alexander Dumas, Mark
Twain, Zane Grey, Louis Lamour and other writers published
millions of copies of their books. A book can be printed and
sold to hundreds of thousands of buyers who are eager to
read the latest best seller.
The computer has made this even easier because
publishing can be done electronically. No storage costs, no
printing costs, no postage, no packages to wrap, no
trips to the post office. The computer can have a website
that sells round the clock, night and day while you sleep
or go on vacation. Ebooks are electronic digits that can
easily be downloaded from a website and sent anywhere
in the world in a few minutes. This modern miracle can
make you rich and famous. Williams Shakespeare with
his crow quill feather pen never had it so good as you do
with your desktop publishing system.

Three Easy Steps to Starting Your First Web Site, Part Two:
"Your Domain Name Is Your E-dentity. Choose It Well"
If you don't have your own domain name, your chaces of on-line success are slim to none. Your domain name is your identity, your brand. Using free hosting, or a blind MLM link as your web site is foolish at best. In fact, it's downright embarrassing. Throughout the course of this article, you will learn the proven steps to choosing a great domain name for your on-line business.
While there are many factors which play into the effectiveness of your domain name, there are three underlying principles which stand tall above the rest:
1) Shorter IS Better!
Aesop, Yahoo, ClickZ, Google, Amazon, MSN, Orbitz... need I say more? These are all highly successful sites -- for many reasons. Reason number one, is a short domain name. Shorter domains are easier to fit on business cards, easier to write, and easier to say -- which brings us to our second key point, which is...
2) It's An Illusion -- Yeah, Yeah, It's Confusin'
A confusing domain name will get you nowhere (yes, even if it's *really* cool). If you heard a radio ad for a new web site called LuvU4Evr.com, what would you think? Well, if you don't forget about it by the time you get home, you might open up your browser and type in the following:
LoveYouForever.com
LoveUForever.com
LuvUForever.com
LuvU4ever.com
At this point, you give up. You think, "Maybe their site is down. I'll check back in a few hours." But, that never happens. You sit down in front of the TV, or get caught up in something else, and never return -- all because of the utter ignorance so blatantly displayed by LuvU4Evr.com.
Do not use any words in your domain name that can be mistaken for a number (1-10) or single letter (U for 'You', B for 'Be', C for 'See', R for 'Are', Y for 'Why', etc, etc), as this will only further confuse your potential visitor.
3) Is it Memorable?
"Yeah, check out AbXqRpY.com. That's my web site."
To which you reply, "Sure thing, buddy!", even though you secretly know you couldn't possibly remember such a domain name.
A memorable domain name will usually have three distinct qualities.
A) It is Bizarre
It doesn't take a college degree to figure out that the more crazy and outlandish your domain name is, the more memorable it will be. This principle was taken into careful consideration when choosing WebProZone.com as my web address, as I'm sure it was when Google, Oingo, Yahoo, and all the others chose theirs.
B) It Follows 'The Principle of Shortness'
"Wow, where'd you come up with that one, Charles?" you ask.
Well, to tell you the truth, I thought that 'The Principle of Shortness' had a comical ring to it. This one is covered earlier on in the article, anyway. You just needed to hear it again, because I knew you would forget. Don't worry, everyone forgets about 'The Principle of Shortness' unless it's beaten into their brain. Just remember, that if there are more than three syllables in your domain name, it is probably too long.
C) It Relates to Your Business
Unless you plan on launching a full scale branding campaign, you'll probably want to choose a domain name that relates to your business in one way or another. Sure, a short & goofy name alone will be memorable, but you want it to set off certain psychological triggers in the mind of your prospect when he or she thinks of you.
For example, ClickZ relates to Internet advertising, in that ad campaigns are often tracked by the number of 'Clicks'. The WebProZone is a place (a Zone, if you will), where 'Web Professionals' may fill their minds with knowledge.
There is much dispute about this particular quality of a memorable domain name. However, it is my contention that in registering a domain name which relates to your business in one way or another -- however specific or nonspecific -- you are saving both time and money in the long run. It's as simple as that.
4) Dot COM!!
Do yourself a favor, and don't register anything other than a .COM. This is the .COM Revolution -- not the .net/.org/.tv/.ws/.info Revolution. There is nothing more to be said about this principle.
Okay, now that you've chosen your domain name, you must register it. Your first step is to find out whether or not the domain name is available. Begin your journey at the following URL:
You can easily check on the availability of domains at this web site. Buyer beware! When you find one that is available, do not purchase it from the web site above. It is outrageously expensive. Get your domain at one of the following URLs:
000domains.com/ ($13.50/yr) netnameone.com/ ($12.99/yr)
Remember, your domain name is your e-dentity. A good domain is:
- Short
- Not confusing
- Memorable
- Dot COM
Now, use what you have just learned to go out there and reserve your space on the web before someone else steals it from right under your nose!

How to Speed Up Your Computer. Part 4
This week we're going to look at other options for speeding up your computer. As with our last installment, we're going to look at hardware options.
Chances are you're working with a lot of images, and over time those files start to eat up a lot of space on your hard drive. You may have noticed that if there are too many files on the drive that it begins to affect system performance. Defragging the hard drive will only do so much - now the issue becomes one of storage.
As I'm sure you've seen, there are many options, such as CD/DVD Writers, etc. In my experience, and especially now because I travel a lot, the single simplest solution is to have not one, but several external hard drives.
Why?
There are several reasons, but the most important aspect is that they allow relatively fast data transfer (much faster than writing a DVD - I've tried it and it's mindlessly tedious... even watching grass grow is more exciting). The other reason is size. If you're traveling, these little drives are really compact, easy to install and weigh almost nothing.
In my case, that takes the form of 80 GB 5400 RPM drives that one can install in a lightweight aluminum case. These connect to my computer by means of a USB 2 cable or Firewire connection. It's important the the drive have a fast cache as well. You can buy drives ready to go, but in my opinion, it's better (and more cost effective) to build one yourself. In addition, some drives have an AC connection, but in my experience, it's not necessary. Other options are the different types of Flash drives that are available. I have one of those. It's small, lightweight, is handy for Internet cafe's and takes up little room in the pocket.
In a home or business office sitution, you can go for much faster drives, such as 7200 RPM (a fast cache is always recommended - and you can make use of an AC adapter, as well. The other consideration is price. The dollar per GB value is much lower these days, making them an attractive alternative to CD/DVD burning. In addition, they're quite stable over time. A couple of drives to consider are Seagate or Western Digital with a capacity of 250 GB.

Help for a new guy!
Tue, 30 Sep 2008 10:45:30 -0700
Hi all, I have been lurking for a few weeks now and have learned a lot. I am also a little more uncertain than I was when I started. Here's the deal: We have just remodeled our home and want to add some home theater. The space has been determined by the remodel and we made some decisions early on that probably can't be changed. We have decided to use a Sony XBR6 52" for the television and as a bow to my wife the Cambridge SW HD speakers 5.1 in our living room space (app 22' x 14'). I
